Two-Player Cosmic Encounter Has Arrived!
Cosmic fans and the Future Pastimes designers have always wanted a Cosmic Encounter game for two players and here it is!
Cosmic designer Peter Olotka put it this way:
“The core interaction of Cosmic Encounter has always been two aliens meeting in space and trying to figure each other out.
Future Pastimes and the Fantasy Flight designers zoned in on those two-player encounters and created COSMIC DUEL a very funny and very surprising game. Oh and be ready to get ‘help’
from the existing Cosmic aliens who float into view as presumptive envoys from time to time.
Cosmic Encounter Duel, designed from the ground up to be a two-player game, distills the essence of the original Cosmic Encounter into an enjoyable experience for both long time fans and newcomers to the Cosmic Universe.
But how do you convert a social, multiplayer game into a satisfying two-player design? It wasn’t easy! Many iterations were created and tested by Future Pastimes before we sent our work to Fantasy Flight Games. They added their own modern spin to the design, including the name, Cosmic Encounter Duel. We want to thank many people at Fantasy Flight Games for contributing to the final product, including Cosmic Encounter Duel designer Frank Brooks, Molly Glover, Andrew Navarro, and Nate French. And the playtesters. And the massively talented artists who gave form (and what a form it is) to the zany, madcap adventures of a bunch of aliens dueling for the honor of joining the Cosmic Citizenship Council.
Fantasy Flight Games & Future Pastimes Present Cosmic Encounter Duel
A momentous occasion has occurred!
The Cosmic Citizenship Council has announced it will allow two new alien species to join its ranks! However, the Council forgot to make two copies of the filing form, meaning really only one species can join…
A duel is the only way to see which species truly deserves to join the ranks of the esteemed Council. To prove their worth, each side must race to gain control of a minimum of five planets. The winner will become a Certified Civilization, while the loser will fade into intergalactic obscurity. Now, the battle is on in Cosmic Encounter Duel!

27 NEW ALIENS
Each player assumes the role of an alien species, which is represented by the alien card they choose during setup. A player’s alien provides them with one or more abilities that alter the game in some way.
27 ENVOYS - COSMIC ENCOUNTER ALIEN COUSINS
Each game begins with three envoys, each of which represents an ambassador from a previously established alien species in the galaxy (who first appeared in the game Cosmic Encounter). The envoys are divided into three different decks, each with a unique icon. Like a player’s alien, each envoy has an ability. However, before a player can use an envoy’s ability, they must first become allied with that envoy.
